Type d’évènement

We are organizing a research workshop focused on the recently released Surya foundation model for heliophysics, trained on data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Foundation models (such as GPT) are AI models, pretrained with big datasets, that aim to facilitate (and reduce the cost of) the development of a wide range of AI applications.

The workshop will take place from January 12th to 16th, 2026 at the Southwest Research Institute, Boulder and will be a hybrid virtual and in-person meeting. This google calendar shows the current agenda in Mountain Standard Time (including the virtual meeting link), which you can add to your own calendar.

The workshop consists of informational and hands-on components. The informational component consists of presentations and lectures about foundation models and how to fine-tune them for different heliophysics applications. The hands-on component will involve the development and training of fine-tuned models in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.

At 4pm MST of the 13th, 14th, and 15th of January there will panels of experts discussing foundation models from Industry (12th), Government Agency (13th), and Scientific (15th) perspectives.

All informational components will be recorded and made available online after the workshop. All are welcome to participate on the informational components; limited availability exists for the hands-on component.  You can find more information on https://www.heliofm.org. For any questions, please contact Andrés Muñoz-Jaramillo.
