2 post-docs on solar and stellar magnetism
The IAC (Tenerife) invites applications for two postdoctoral contracts to work on the project linked to the line of research “Solar and stellar magnetism”. The contract is funded by the project “Solar atmosphere dynamics: connectivity energy transfer, and diagnostics (SOLAR-CONNECTED)” (PID2024-156538NB-I00), led by Dr. Iñigo Arregui and Dr. Sergio Javier González Manrique.
The successful candidate will pursue research in one or several of the following fields:
- Observational studies of the solar atmosphere using data from ground-based, space-borne, and balloon-borne solar telescopes.
- Analysis of high-resolution imaging, spectroscopic, and spectropolarimetric observations to investigate plasma dynamics, wave phenomena, and magnetic field diagnostics.
- Theoretical and numerical studies of oscillatory phenomena and wave modes in magnetized solar plasmas, including their propagation and energy transport.
- Application of advanced data-analysis techniques, including statistical, Bayesian and machine-learning methods, for the interpretation of complex solar spectral profiles and coronal seismology.
Duration: The contract will be of indefinite duration. It is estimated that the date of commencement will be during the first half of 2026. The current funding horizon for the project ends on 31 of August 2029, although there are enough funds for 22 months for each contract.
Application deadline: April 15, 2026
1 post-doc on Space Solar Physics and Space Weather
The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) invites applications for one postdoctoral position in Solar Physics within the project “Space Solar Physics and Space Weather.”
The successful candidate will conduct observational studies of the solar atmosphere, from the photosphere to the corona, primarily using data from Solar Orbiter and/or Sunrise III, with the possibility of combining these with other space- and ground-based observations.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Astrophysics or Physics by the application deadline.
Application deadline: April 15, 2026
Expected start date: First half of 2026 (with some flexibility).
The IAC is an internationally recognized center of excellence in astrophysics located in La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands), next to the island’s capital. It operates the world-class Canary Islands Observatories, one of the premier astronomical sites in the Northern Hemisphere, and hosts a large, internationally active research community.
Tenerife offers a mild year-round climate, remarkable natural surroundings, and an international scientific environment, together with direct access to leading ground-based facilities and major space missions.
