The Space Physics Group at the Department of Physics, University of Helsinki (UH) is inviting applications for two postdoctoral researcher positions:
- Extreme space weather at Mercury: This position focuses on the analysis of observations using data from the upcoming BepiColombo mission, in particular its X-ray and particle measurements from the SIXS instrument. The work may include multi-spacecraft studies of the solar wind using data e.g. from Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, and BepiColombo.
- Modelling Extreme Solar Eruptions: This position aims to investigate the generation of extreme solar eruptions in the solar corona and interplanetary space using data-driven modelling approaches. Artificial intelligence methods may also be utilized to simulate extreme conditions.
The postdoc positions are for 2 years and are available immediately. Depending upon the project funds extensions can be discussed. We also offer support for applying for personal funds e.g. from the Research Council of Finland and ERC.
The call is open until 1.12.2025 or until the positions are filled. Applications should include (all in English):
- A motivation letter (max 1 page)
- A curriculum vitae
- List of publications
- Contact details for at least two academic references.
