SUMMARY:RAS discussion meeting on Mercury's space environment
DESCRIPTION:\nWe are pleased to announce the upcoming Royal Astronomical So
ciety Specialist Discussion Meeting entitled: “The State-of-the-Art of M
ercury’s Space Environment in Preparation for the Nominal Phase of the B
epiColombo Mission.”\n\n\n\nSpecialist Discussion Meetings provide a val
uable forum to promote and encourage research in astronomy and geophysics
by facilitating in-depth conversations on current scientific topics. BepiC
olombo is a joint ESA and JAXA mission that will study\, using two orbiter
s\, the planet Mercury itself\, its space environment\, and interactions w
ith the solar wind. Both orbiters will arrive together at Mercury in Novem
ber 2026. This Discussion Meeting will focus on the solar wind and space w
eather encountered near Mercury’s orbit\, as observed by MESSENGER\, Sol
ar Orbiter\, Parker Solar Probe\, and by BepiColombo itself during its cru
ise phase and Mercury flybys. Our aim is to bridge the gap between the pla
netary and solar communities\, fostering collaboration and discussion in p
reparation for BepiColombo’s prime science mission. We welcome contribut
ions from both fields to help build the most up-to-date understanding of M
 ercury’s space environment.\n\n\n\nTopics to be covered include:\n\n\n\n
\nSolar wind interaction with Mercury\n\n\n\nHolistic response of the Herm
ean system to solar events\, including magnetospheric dynamics and X-ray e
missions from the surface\n\n\n\nSolar wind and solar transient prediction
\n\n\n\nLessons learned from MESSENGER and Solar Orbiter at Mercury’s or
 bital distance\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Details:\n\n\n\n\nDate: Friday\, 12 Decemb
 er 2025\, 10:30–15:35 (UK time)\n\n\n\nVenue: The Geological Society\, B
 urlington House\, London\n\n\n\nRegister here (Free for RAS Fellows\; £15
  for non-Fellows\, £16.96 including admin fee)\n\n\n\n\nYou are welcome t
o attend the meeting without presenting. However\, if you wish to share yo
ur work\, please submit here. Deadline for abstracts: 14 November 2025\, M
eeting schedule announcement: 21 November 2025.\n\n\n\n(Transmis par Lina
