Vigil is ESA’s first dedicated operational space-weather mission, designed to observe the Sun from the Sun–Earth L5 point, providing a new perspective on solar activity and helping improve space-weather forecasting capabilities.
The four-day workshop will bring together the scientific community, instrument teams, operational forecasting centres and international partners to explore the mission’s capabilities, operational applications and scientific opportunities.
The meeting will be organised around four themes:
- Day 1: Introducing Vigil – The mission, its instruments and lessons learned from heritage missions.
- Day 2: From Observations to Operations – Space-weather services, forecasting opportunities, AI/ML applications and research to operations.
- Day 3: Science with Vigil – Scientific opportunities from L5, multi-viewpoint observations and coordinated science.
- Day 4: Preparing for Vigil and Beyond – Community tools, calibration and validation, future collaborations and preparing for the operational phase.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas, establish collaborations and help shape the scientific and operational exploitation of Vigil observations.
A dedicated registration webpage, preliminary programme and call for abstracts will be announced shortly.
Participation will be limited by venue capacity. Priority will be given to invited speakers and participants, with remaining places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to actively participate in the meeting.
