The Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) invites applications for one postdoctoral position entitled “Emergence and evolution of magnetic regions in the solar atmosphere from exploitation of IBIS 2.0 observations”. The primary aim is to study the processes leading to the emergence and evolution of solar magnetic regions, through analysis of high-resolution spectro-polarimetric observations of regions.
The research project will involve analysis of high resolution solar imaging spectro-polarimeters (e.g. IBIS, CRISP, CHROMIS, GRIS, HINODE, instruments onboard SUNRISE and Solar Orbiter).
Applicants with experience in high resolution observations of the solar atmosphere and methods for studying evolution of solar magnetic regions as well as spectropolarimetric inversions of the solar photosphere and chromosphere are encouraged to apply.
The position is funded for one year, with the possibility of an extension based on the continued availability of funding and performance.
A PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy or related fields is required, or a Master’s degree and three years of research activity.
The closing date for applications is August 30, 2026.
Questions can be directed to Mariarita Murabito and Ilaria Ermolli.
